KATHMANDU, NEPAL – Social Impact, in partnership with the Nepal Economic Development Initiative (NEDI), is proud to celebrate the successful completion of a three-month placement by two dedicated volunteers from Canada. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting international volunteer exchange, fostering cross-cultural collaboration, and driving positive social change in Nepal.
During their tenure, the volunteers channeled their expertise into two critical research projects, addressing some of Nepal's most pressing contemporary issues. Their work has provided invaluable insights that will help guide future development and advocacy efforts.
The two key areas of research were:

Solid Waste Management and the Status of Scavengers: This vital research examined the current practices of solid waste management in urban areas. It also cast a much-needed spotlight on the socio-economic conditions and challenges faced by informal waste collectors (scavengers), whose contributions to recycling and the environment often go unrecognized. The findings aim to inform more inclusive and sustainable waste management policies.

Business and Human Rights in the Hydropower Sector: With Nepal's hydropower sector rapidly expanding, this timely study investigated the intersection of business operations and human rights. The research explored corporate responsibility, community impact, and the frameworks necessary to ensure that large-scale energy projects are developed ethically and sustainably, respecting the rights of all stakeholders.
